There is nothing of the sort being planned or happening! Way back in January 2015 when KTR visited Dubai, a prominent Dubai based Development Company , Dubai Holdings, (who is currently undertaking the Kochi Smart City Project) had expressed interest to develop similar Project linked with Information Technology Enabled services (ITIR) – which incidentally was then being planned by the State Government along the Southern Crescent of the Outer Ring Road Growth Corridor starting from Ghatkesar (where the Infosys Campus is located through Koheda near Nagarjunasagar Highway, through Adibhatla, Mankhal, Shamsabad,
Manchirevulu,Narsingi,Kokapet, Nanakramguda till the starting point of ORR at Gachibowli. Unfortunately, the present Union Government has put the ITIR Policy in the backburner and as result, the Hyderabad ITIR Project really never took off. So is the case elsewhere like Bangalore and Visakhapatnam where the ITIR has been a non-starter. Therefore the dreams of Shamsabad as a Smart City with Dubai Agency was only an intent. However, in late 2017, the State Government revived Shamsabad and the environs of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (10 km north and south of the International Airport ) as an ‘aerotropolis’ that is with the International airport becoming anchors for a new type of multi-functional smart city around it, with huge employment in related ancillary business and commerce, Plots near my home smart city shamshabad
Aerospace related employment opportunities, IT Hardware, Nanotechnology, etc. HMDA has taken up the task of ensuring planning the whole south of the outer Ring Road as an aerotropolis and is calling for Expression of Interest from international Consultant/experts in aerotropolis planning and development on a turnkey basis. This if it comes through would change the whole face of Old City and South Hyderabad in particular, and place Hyderabad as a mega metropolis since next to this is the Pharma Hub coming up at Manchal.
